Transition to Chicago Style Referencing and Citation

We are excited to share a significant update regarding our referencing and citation style. In response to feedback and a thorough evaluation, we have decided to transition to the author-date system as proposed by the Chicago Style, effective immediately.

Authors are kindly requested to follow the Chicago Style guidelines for all future submissions.

Prof. Miroljub Jevtic met with Bintou Keita

Prof. Miroljub Jevtic, founder and editor-in-chief of Politics and Religion Journal, and the Ambassador of Serbia in the Democratic Republic of Congo, recently held a meeting with Bintou Keita. Jevtic and Keita talked about current international affairs and the importance of Politics and Religion Journal for understading these events from the perspective of politology of religion.

Bintou Keita is serving as the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Head of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in DR Congo.

We are excited to announce an opening for the position of Book Review Editor at the Politics and Religion Journal. As a highly regarded publication in the field, we are committed to promoting rigorous academic research and fostering insightful discussions at the intersection of politics and religion. We invite scholars to join our Editorial team and contribute to the growth and development of our journal.

Responsibilities:

Soliciting, receiving, and reviewing book review submissions in the field of politics and religion.
Evaluating the quality, relevance, and suitability of book reviews for publication.
Collaborating with authors and providing constructive feedback to enhance the clarity, coherence, and academic rigor of the reviews.
Working closely with the Editorial team to ensure the timely publication of book reviews.
Engaging with leading scholars and experts in politics and religion to identify potential books for review.
Maintaining effective communication with authors, reviewers, and the editorial team throughout the review process.

Requirements:

A strong academic background in religion and politics, or a related discipline (a Ph.D. is preferred, but Ph.D. students are also welcome to apply).
Demonstrated expertise and research experience in the field of politics and religion.
Familiarity with academic publishing standards and the peer review process.
Proficiency in English (additional language skills are a plus).

CfP: Special issue "Religion and Politics in Israel"

The scandal surrounding Israel’s treatment of non-Jewish Ukrainian refugees, as opposed to “Law of Return eligible” refugees, has highlighted the problematic relations between Israel’s self-definition as a Jewish and as a democratic state. Judaism is at the core of Zionist ideology and the State of Israel’s identity. But is Judaism a religion, a nationality, or both? If both, how do the two aspects relate to each other? How do they relate to democracy; to human rights; to equal citizenship? Is Israeli society undergoing a process of religionization or of secularization? Can Israel be Jewish and democratic at the same time? These are some of the questions we would like to explore in this thematic issue of Politics and Religion Journal.

Please submit English abstracts of no more than 250 words, and a short bio, by April 30, 2022, to Yoav Peled, poli1@tauex.tau.ac.il. We welcome submissions of all theoretical and methodological approaches and from scholars at all stages of their career. Complete papers of no more than 10,000 words are to be submitted by December 31, 2022, and will go through double-blind review process.

Prof. Miroljub Jevtić named R. Serbia ambassador to DR Congo

Prof. Miroljub Jevtic has officially submitted his credential to the President of Democratic Republic of Congo, Mr. Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. His mandate as an ambassador of Serbia started in 2021.

Prof. Jevtic will continue to serve as the editor-in-chief of Politics and Religion Journal.

Politics and Religion Journal (PRJ) is looking for a new Book Review Editor to join our Editorial Board.

Book Review Editor will be responsible for: keeping up to date with new relevant publications from the field of religion & politics, recruiting reviewers, coordinating mail-outs of books to reviewers, editing book reviews, and working closely with the Editorial Board. The position is held for a two year period, starting with January 1, 2022.

Applications must include a one-page cover letter identifying your current position and research areas, an overview of teaching and research experience, and a description of why you would like to join our Editorial Board. Beside the cover letter, please send you updated CV.

Deadline for application is November 30, 2021.

Despite the fact that in-person conference is a much better fit for this kind of academic event, we are happy to inform you that the overall impressions is very positive!

Politology of Religion: III Bi-Annual Conference 2021

We kindly invite scholars, researches, doctoral students, policy-makers and other stakeholders interested in the complex relationship between religion and politics to send their panel and/or paper proposals for the upcoming III bi-annual conference on Politology of Religion. This two-day academic event will take place in a virtual realm via Zoom on May 28-29, 2021, and is jointly organized by the Faculty of Political Sciences (University of Belgrade) and Politics and Religion Journal. Conference is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Republic of Serbia.

This conference is dedicated to the latest challenges regarding the complex relationship between religion and politics. That is why we are looking forward to receiving highly qualitative panel and paper proposals examining this relationship from various academic backgrounds and methodological approaches. Both qualitative and quantitative papers are welcome.

Working language

English.

Submission guidelines

We are interested in receiving both paper and/or panel proposals (in word or pdf format). Submission deadline is April 20, 2021.

Complete paper submission includes the following: Paper proposal (title of the paper, abstract up to 250 words, and 4-5 keywords), and Author’s short bio (Full name of the author(s), position held, academic background, contact details, and short list of publications).

Complete panel submission includes: Panel proposal (title of the panel, abstract up to 250 words, and 4-5 keywords), 3-5 paper proposals (with title and abstract) and short bios of all panel participants. At this moment, we are happy to receive panel-seeking-papers submissions, which will be disseminated on the web site of Politics and Religion Journal.

After the conference

After the conference, all participants will be invited to submit their full papers for publication in the Conference proceeding published by the Center for Study of Religion and Religious Tolerance and the Faculty of Political Sciences University of Belgrade (with ISBN). We will publish up to 15 papers. Expected deadline for submission of papers is late July 2021, while the proceeding will be out of print by late September 2021.

Only few authors with the outstanding conference papers will be invited to submit their work for consideration in Politics and Religion Journal. Final decision on which authors will be invited to submit their work will be done by the conference Program board.

In December 2017 the Polish scholars interested in politology of religion organized a conference "Relations between religion and politics as a subject of research of political science". One of the publications which was published after the conference is the new issue of the "Christianity-World-Politics, Journal of the Catholic Political Thought". This conference showed that Polish political scientists represents one of the most eminent societies interested in politology of religion.

The article by Prof. Miroljub Jevtic, titled "25 years of Politology of religion", has been published in this issue of the Journal (pp. 151-158).

We would like to express our deep gratitude and respect to the Polish colleagues who are helping the development of politology of religion. Science belongs to all who invest in it, and who loves it.

NEW CHALLENGES FOR POLITOLOGY OF RELIGION

Politology of religion exist for a very long time. It was born 26 years ago at the Department of Political science, University of Belgrade, in the school year 1993/1994, when it was clear that Political scientist
started to realize that religion is in the very essence of some of the most important political events in the world: Iranian Islamic revolution, founding of Israel and Pakistan, downfall of Yugoslavia etc. At the
same time, Political scientist started to realize that religion, among other factors, is one of the most important driving forces for other political events, such is its role in dissolution of the Warsaw pact.
After 9/11, this fact was even more visible. It goes to this day, with the last statements of Vain Mattis saying that priorities of the U.S. foreign politics are: China, Russia, North Korea and Iran, with fight
against Islamic terrorism at the top of the bucket list. On the other hand, religious topics are often in the coverage of the worldwide media: migrant crisis and Islam; recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of
Israel; question of the future of democracy in EU, which stands out of the Shuman’s attitude that European democracy is supposed to be Christian or it will collapse into anarchy. This panel is intended to
cover all of these topics.

RELIGION AND POLITICAL PARTIES
Abstract

In the last decades of XX and in the beginning of XXI century, religion becomes an important factor in political life around the globe. Among many other fields, religion has a massive influence in political parties
as well. This fact can be seen in several different ways. First of all, many political parties are formed with concrete religious marks, such are Demo Christian parties or Muslim Brotherhood. On the other hand,some
political parties are dealing a lot with the issues regarding religion, despite the fact they are formally secular. Moreover, we can see the influence of religion on political parties throw their work with different NGOs dealing with religion. And last but not the least many religious organizations are working with political parties and lobby groups in order to achieve their own interests.

This panel should gather scholars and political scientists familiar with the relationships between political parties and religion from all around the world and from various religious traditions, whose papers will give a contribution in developing this important field of research. Therefore, this panel should be a humble contribution to the development of politology of religion, one of the youngest political science discipline, firstly introduced in the curriculum of the Department of Political Science, University of Belgrade, in the school year 1993/1994.
